SOUTH African all rounders Andrew Hall and Justin Kemp are determined to carry on from where they left off at Kent last summer, but this time around they will remain at Canterbury until the end of the season.

Hall and Kemp both scored Championship centuries last year and Hall was the club's leading wicket-taker with 40, but the pair left to attend a South African training camp and missed the climax to the season.

This summer their priority is help Kent become a more consistent outfit in both four-day and one-day cricket.

Hall said: "I am very excited to be returning to Kent this year. We did very well in four-day cricket last year and were in with a chance of winning the County Championship until the last game of the season.

"In the end we were disappointed to miss out and our one-day form was very inconsistent.

"We need to change our attitude in one-day cricket and transfer the energy of our four-day performances into the one-day arena."

Kemp agrees, believing that whilst Kent have already proved they can match the best sides in the county game, their one-day performances were unacceptable last summer.

He said: "We should be aiming to win the County Championship this summer. We can beat any of the top sides and have nothing to fear when we play them.

"We were unlucky last year when we took massive risks towards the end of the season because of the weather to force results.

"The key for us this year is to be more consistent across the board. We played badly in one-day cricket and need to make it a priority to improve this summer."

Hall and Kemp are also looking forward to playing under new captain Robert Key, who they insist is the right man to lead Kent to glory in the foreseeable future.

"Robert is a new captain but he is not a new player," Hall said. "He is a straight shooter, which the players respect, and a very talented batsman who could get another England call-up at some stage.

"He also has an excellent knowledge of the game and is a winner."

Kemp added: "Robert is a hell of a talented batsman and should be in the England side for years to come.

"It's fantastic that he has been appointed captain and he is a very straight guy who will tell the players what he thinks without holding back."
