Slack five minute spell sinks Margate

Nuneaton 3 Margate 2

CALAMITOUS defending saw Margate surrender a two-goal lead to go down 3-2 at Nuneaton

in the Nationwide Conference on Saturday.

Margate, who have now slipped into the bottom three, were two ahead through Leyton Orient loan signing Steve Watts after 36 minutes and a Michael Love own goal on 56. But then they shot themselves in the foot, conceding three goals in five minutes.

On 77 minutes Mark Quayle was left unmarked in the area and he fired past keeper Charlie Mitten to bring Nuneaton back into the game.

A minute later another cross saw Margate fail to clear and Craig Woodley sent a looping header beyond the stranded Mitten.

Only another four minutes had elapsed when this time defender Lee Shearer tried to dribble clear, but was dispossessed by Quayle. His shot was parried by Mitten, but Gary Jones followed up to bundle the ball home.
