Gillingham 2 Stoke 1

A WONDER goal from Gillingham captain Paul Smith secured all three points against Stoke on Tuesday.

Jay MvEveley gave Stan Ternent's men an early lead when his free kick was deflected in by Kenwyne Jones.

Clive Clarke smashed a free kick off the cross bar in the first half but Jones atoned for his earlier error by heading the equaliser.

Smith had the last word though when his 25-yard volley flew into the top corner on 69 minutes to give Gills the points.

Gillingham: Banks (Bossu 79) Nosworthy Hope, Cox, McEveley, Southall, Smith, Flynn, Douglas, Sidibe, Henderson (Byfield 65). Subs Not Used: Crofts, Hills, Jarvis.

Attendance: 7,766.
