Shaw shines for injury-hit Gills

Gillingham 1 Sheffield Utd 1

THERE were more grimaces of relief than smiles of satisfaction as injury-ravaged Gillingham finished the match clutching a point.

Gills, for all their injuries, were still capable of holding an in-form Sheffield United who had occupied third place on Tuesday night.

After Wednesday's shortcomings at Nottingham Forest, Gillingham needed commitment - and the players supplied it.

In Paul Shaw the Kent side had a player who ran every step of the way. Few things in this season of perpetual team disruptions have been as reliable as Shaw.

The player, who a couple of season ago appeared unable to hit the proverbial barn door, weighed in with a second goal of the season on 16 minutes but more important accepted all the responsibility that came his way.

United eventually levelled on the hour when Ndlovu was again foiled by Brown. The ball fell to Allison who equalised.
