Saturday football round-up

TONBRIDGE Angels missed out on the chance to go back to the top of Ryman League Division 1 after a 1-0 defeat to fellow high-flyers Horsham at Longmead on Saturday.

It was a smash-and-grab victory for the visitors who capitalised on the Angels' inability to score despite creating several good chances, with Leroy Huggins and Luke Piscina both guilty of squandering fine opportunities.

So it was left to Andy Walker to tap in from almost on the goal-line with 11 minutes to go and secure the three points for Horsham.

Horsham are top of the table after Dover Athletic lost 2-1 at Molesey, despite taking the lead.

Nicky Humphrey gave the Whites a first half lead, but the home side came back and took the points.

Two goals by Jon Main earned Cray Wanderers a 2-2 draw at home against Bashley, but it was bad news for Ashford Town who went down 2-1 at Lymington & New Milton. Joby Thorogood scored Town's goal.

In the Ryman League Premier Division, both Bromley and Margate suffered 1-0 defeats against Heybridge Swifts and Chelmsford City respectively.

Chatham Town worked hard to defeat Great Wakering Rovers 3-2 in an entertaining Southern League Division 1 East encounter.

A brace by Matt Bourne and a Rob Denness strike was just about enough for the home side, despite Steve Butterworth equalising twice for the visitors.

Dartford also took maximum points from their home clash against Aveley.

But Sittingbourne had to settle for a point at home against Corby Town, who will count themselves unfortunate after hitting a post.
