Revving up for action at Lydden

THE South East Motor Sport Enthusiasts Club’s car race meeting and sprint at Lydden Motor Racing Circuit on Saturday provides the final round for three regional championships.

Many of the titles have yet to be decided and, with double points being awarded for the final rounds, all the competitors will be fighting to finish ahead of the pack.

The Sprint practice starts at 9am with the first timed runs being from about 10.15am while the race practice will commence at about 1pm with the first race due to get underway at 2.30pm.

Ticket prices are £8 for adults with accompanied children under 14 free. Parking and access to the paddock is also free.

The Credit Professionals Sports Car is now led by Paul Bernal-Ryan (Ashford) in an MG Midget from Alan Maynard (Worthing, Caterham Seven).

In the Sports Racing Car Championship Charles DeGarston (Tunbridge Wells) driving a Radical Clubsport is equal leader with Leigh Parkes (Sutton) driving a Vision V86 Clubmans Car.

The BSW Motor Sport Intermediate Saloon Championship is lead by Ron Watson (London) in his Bill Richards built Mini.

However, Richards, (Brookland) himself has now slipped from second to third place after a crash in his Mini at the last meeting resulted in him failing to score points in that round.

Peter Wilkinson (Bethersden) in his much more powerful Sierra Cosworth has moved up into second position and has a good chance of winning the championship as Ron Watson has yet to drop his worst score which would effectively put them on level points going into the last round.

The meeting also includes a Sprint event promoted by Rochester Motor Club and again this provides the final round of a number of regional championships and the very popular All Circuit Sprint Championship.
