A KENT teacher will umpire at the world’s greatest sporting tournament – the Olympic Games.

Andy Mair, head of design technology at Chatham House Grammar School, Ramsgate, is qualified to oversee European, international and world ranking hockey matches.

He has been invited to umpire at the Beijing Games next year which is the pinnacle of achievement.

A former Chatham House student, he played hockey to national league level with Canterbury after playing for Thanet’s renowned Cliftonville side.

He started umpiring school matches when he was working part time as a PE coach.

His involvement as an official increased when he joined the Kent Hockey Association and it grew from there.
