GILLINGHAM have been boosted by news that striker Darius Henderson has had his red card against Leeds on Saturday rescinded.

Henderson received his marching orders after an altercation with Leeds' Michael Gray that caused a mass brawl involving around 30 players, staff and officials from both clubs. Gray was also sent off.

But the dismissal was overturned on Tuesday afternoon and Gills assistant manager Ronnie Jepson is delighted with the decision.

He said: "We were pleased he had his red card rescinded. It was a boost to us and rightly so. If it wasn’t for the melee, it would have been a yellow card for Michael Gray and then get on with the game.

"But you saw what happened. Darius got surrounded by a few people and it all kicked off. We tried to get him away as quickly as we could but the referee started the game with a throw-in so that says a lot."

Gillingham and Leeds still face an FA charge of failing to control their players during the incident. The Gills have denied the charge and requested a personal hearing.

Leeds already have a £60,000 suspended fine hanging over their heads from last season relating to the red and yellow cards collected during the relegation season.
