Rams ready for 'massive' test

Ramsgate expect to be close to full-strength for Saturday's home Ryman League Premier Division match with Sutton United.

Other than Lee Minshull, who is still a couple of weeks away from a return, Rams have no fresh injury worries and manager Jimmy Ward says the Sutton game is a key fixture as his side attempt to pull away from the foot of the table.

He said: “Sutton are a big club and it’ll be a massive test for us.

"We may not be getting results at the moment but we are playing well and we intend to go into the game in a positive manner and go for the points.”

Rams put in a seven-day approach for Chatham defender Richard Avery this week, but Ward decided not to pursue his interest.

"I had a look and changed my mind," he added while also revealing that Byron Walker has left Southwood to join Thamesmead in Ryman League Division 1 North.

Ward says it is important Rams start collecting points against the teams around them in the table and hopes they will become more ruthless in front of goal.

Last Saturday at AFC Hornchurch the Rams missed four decent opportunities to take the lead before their Essex hosts netted three second-half goals.

“If you don’t take your chances then you can’t win games,” said Ward.

Margate ended a run of three straight defeats with Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Carshalton.

They are without a game on Saturday but welcome Harlow Town to Hartsdown Park on December 20, before playing two big Kent derbies, away to Ramsgate (December 27) and then at home to league leaders Dover Athletic on the third day of the new year.
