Rain proves the winner in Leeds

Yorkshire v Kent - match drawn

JUST six balls were bowled all day before Kent’s rain-ruined championship clash with Yorkshire was abandoned as a draw on Saturday afternoon.

After a delay of 47 hours for heavy rain, the players sidled out from the Headingley dressing rooms to resume play in a near empty Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid sent down the six deliveries to Martin van Jaarsveld, who added two to his overnight score as the showers abated just after 3pm, but within two minutes the rain returned forcing umpires Barrie Dudleston and Graham Burgess to call the game off at 4pm.

It proved the sole over of the final two days of the game as Kent reached 230 for six in reply to Yorkshire’s 310.
