BROMLEY won promotion to the Conference South after the nail-biting drama of a penalty shootout in the Ryman League Premier Division play-off final against Billericay on Saturday.

Peter Adenyi was the hero as he slotted home the winning spot-kick after an even contest ended at 1-1 after 120 minutes.

After a bright start, the Lillywhites took the lead on the half hour when Nic McDonnell twisted and turned on the edge of the box before curling a superb left-foot shot beyond Billericay keeper Billy McMahon.

But Billericay were level two minutes before the break when Billy Holland, who had only been on the pitch a short time after coming on to replace Joe Flack, rose to head in from close range, despite Bromley appealing for offside.

Both sides had opportunities to win the match. McDonnell had the pick of the Bromley chances - seeing one effort cleared off the line, firing over when he should have scored and then hitting the side netting right at the end of extra-time.

It was the Lillywhites who held their nerve to win the shootout 4-2 as Leon Hunter and Darren Blewitt missed crucially for Billericay.
