Primus in contention for Addicks place

Linvoy Primus completed 90 minutes for Charlton reserves on Monday night to thrust himself into contention for a Valley return against Wolves on Saturday.

The central defender, who turns 35 next week, last played for the Addicks in 1994 before moving to Barnet and later Reading and Portsmouth.

A knee injury kept him out of contention at Fratton Park for 16 months.

“I would think there is every chance that Linvoy will be involved on Saturday,” said manager Alan Pardew who signed him on a three-month loan from Pompey.

The paperwork, for what has become a complicated move, will be completed this week now the player has proved his fitness.

Charlton wanted to make the loan season-long but the player opted for three-months in the hope of breaking back into Portsmouth’s side before the end of the season when his contract expires.

Pardew looks certain to hand a Charlton debut on Saturday to England Under-21 international defender Martin Cranie, another loanee signed from Portsmouth until Christmas.

Pardew must also decide whether or not to include midfielder Zheng Zhi who trained for the first time on Monday this week after recovering from a deep-seated groin injury.

“In terms of selection I’ve got plenty of thinking to do before Saturday,” Pardew conceded. “What I do know is that this game is one of the top matches on the day. And I include the Premier League in that.

“Wolves play with two wingers and there is no way they will sit back and defend. It promises to be a cracker of a game.”

Lloyd Sam, who missed the Preston defeat with a knee injury, is available.

Charlton reserves lost 2-0 to Aldershot at Ebbsfleet United’s Stonebridge Road on Monday to goals from Junior Mendez in the 17th and 47th minutes.
