GILLINGHAM Football Club has been added to the list of Medway venues that could be used as training camps for Olympic competitors.

The 10,000-seat stadium is just one of seven venues Medway’s Olympic manager, Bob Dimond, believes could host pre-games training camps.

The Jumpers Rebound Centre, Holcombe Hockey Club, Medway Badminton Association and Howard School Table Tennis Centre could also become training camps in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

In the bid, council chiefs said the Jumpers Rebound Centre in Mill Road, Gillingham, was one of the largest in Europe, boasting 15 trampolines. Holcombe Hockey Club was described as one of the largest in Britain and Medway Badminton Association in Castlemaine Avenue, Gillingham, was said to have four courts with sprung wooden flooring.

The University of Kent has provided £3 million to transform the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Mill Road, Gillingham, into a centre of sporting excellence.
