ANKLE INJURY: Barry Ashby is unlikely to feature in Gillingham's next two matches

Preston v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM defender Barry Ashby is losing his race to be fit ahead of the trip to Preston on Saturday.

Ashby is making a good recovery from a sprained ankle but is not expected to feature at Deepdale and is also likely to miss the trip to QPR on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Gills are still hoping to extend the loan periods of James McEveley and Jonathan Douglas, who have impressed in their brief time at Priestfield.

The players are due to return to Blackburn Rovers on April 10 but assistant manager Ronnie Jepson is hopeful they can stay longer.

He said: "They have been a good addition to the squad and fitted in well. If we can keep them to the end of the season we will be happy."
