'Positive' step forward on Gate stadium plan

MARGATE officials hope to name the day to begin work on rebuilding Hartsdown Park within the next fortnight.

Club officials described a site meeting this week as "positive" and say progress was made on many issues involving the architects, developers and contractors involved in the project.

A spokesman said: "We know we have got to start work by the end of this month, and want to be in a position to confirm a date in the next seven to ten days."

Meanwhile, the club says there is "one major creditor situation which needs resolution" prior to the release of funds to end the transfer embargo and pay other unpaid wages.

A club statement added: "Negotiations are taking place to resolve this. Funding for the work will be provided in the form of a loan to the Hartsdown Development Company, and it is important to note that should the wider redevelopment fail to go ahead, then this would have to be repaid."

Margate will hold their annual meeting on Wednesday, March 30, and may also stage an open meeting for supporters immediately afterwards. They also plan to appoint a new commercial manager.
