THERE was bright sunshine and a drying breeze, but no play proved possible before lunch in Kent's LV Championship clash with Worcestershire at sodden New Road.

The ground suffered heavy flooding on June 26 and despite huge efforts from the Worcestershire staff to make the ground playable, it clearly was not, leaving players and supporters to wonder why the game was not moved elsewhere.

Kent officials have already contacted the ECB to express their disappointment over the condition of the ground, but are prepared to leave the ECB to resolve the issue.

Kent's chief executive Paul Millman said: "I rang ECB head of operations Alan Fordham and he told me there would be a pitch inspector at the ground, so I agreed that we would let the due ECB process takes its course."

There remains a possibilty, however, that the game may have to be re-scheduled.
