PENNOCK: "I don’t know why our away form has dipped"

Hayes v Welling United

WELLING manager Adrian Pennock will continue in his attempts to sign a new striker – despite being rejected by his latest target.

The Wings boss had put in a seven-day approach to sign a new target man but the unnamed forward has turned down the move.

"The player decided to stay at his club, the manager there is a good mate of his and they are trying to avoid relegation," said Pennock.

"I’m still trying to get a striker in but there are not many around. It won’t be for the lack of trying but I’m happy with the rest of my squad and unless a decent player becomes available, then I’m not looking to make many changes now."

Pennock has demanded his team improve their away form with two matches on the road inside four days.

The Wings travel to Hayes on Saturday and Farnborough on Tuesday, aiming for a first away league win since the end of October.

Pennock said: "We’re trying to win every game we play now. We've got 11 cup finals ahead of us but we’ll be happy with a point away from home. I don’t know why our away form has dipped. We are not doing anything differently."

Welling defender John Guest (wisdom teeth) should return to replace the injured Barry Ashby, who hobbled off during the midweek draw against Histon with a hamstring injury.

Rob Owen (illness) and Matt Bodkin (ankle) are also in line for a place in the starting eleven.
