Preston 0 Charlton 2

MANAGER Alan Pardew singled out goalkeeper Nicky Weaver for praise as Charlton beat Preston at Deepdale for the first time in 53 years on Saturday.

The former Manchester City stopper produced a series of exceptional second half saves as Charlton registered a fourth straight win and a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

"He's in the form of life," said Pardew. "What's more he fitter than ever because he had to be with so many Preston players crowding in on him at every opportunity. He was outstanding."

Charlton, who scored in the last minute against Southampton and Bristol City plus two in first half stoppage time against Cardiff, continued the habit against Preston.

China captain Zheng Zhi scored his fifth goal of the season when he gave Charlton the lead in the final minute of first half stoppage time with a sweet left foot drive.

Charlton substitute Luke Varney increased the lead in the last minute of second half stoppage time.
