IFFY ONUORA helped guide Gillingham to victory on Saturday and admitted he would jump at the chance to take on the manager’s job full time.

The former Gills striker teamed up with Mick Docherty on a joint caretaker manager basis to oversee Saturday’s 1-0 win over Brighton, and he’s more than willing to carry on.

“We’ve done ourselves no harm,” he said. “The table looks better already, we’re delighted and we want to keep making strides.

“We’re in charge at the moment overseeing team affairs and if it was the case that the chairman made that permanent then I, and Mick as well, would be delighted and honoured to take over.

“If that isn’t the case, and the chairman goes outside the club or something else, then I’d like to think that we’d try and give that guy our full support like we tried to with Ronnie.”

Onuora returned to the club for a third spell after being appointed first team coach by former boss Ronnie Jepson.

“It’s a club that’s close to my heart,” he said. “It’s my third spell back and if someone gave me the opportunity to do it then I would be honoured and more than delighted to take it forward.”
