Gills striker Dennis Oli has welcomed manager Mark Stimson’s ruthless team selection policy.

Stimson hasn’t been afraid to drop his under-performing players as leading scorer Simeon Jackson and previously ever-present defender John Nutter have recently found out.

Oli himself was dropped from the team following the home defeat to Bradford on February 7 but the forward has no arguments.

He said: “It’s good to have that thought in your head that if you don’t perform well, then someone can replace you and do a good job, if not better.

“You have to be on your game week in, week out and give a 100 per cent effort. I think competition is healthy and everyone just wants the best for the team.

“If you aren’t going to do it right, someone is going to come on and get your shirt so you have to give it your best the day you do play.”

Oli has quickly established himself back in the team and his pace is a vital component of the team.

“We’ve got a lot of pace in the team going forward,” said the 25-year-old.

“We look frightening going forward and there are goals all over. We’re creating chances which is the main thing and if we keep creating those chances, we’ll score goals.”
