Northampton Town 1 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM were denied victory at Northampton after conceding a goal three minutes from time.

Dean McDonald’s headed effort on the hour looked to have handed the Gills victory, only for Jordan Roberts to level on 87 minutes.

It was a cruel blow but after Gillingham had rode their luck on several occasions, a draw was the least the home side deserved.

Relegation-threatened Northampton looked the most likely to score in the first half, but failed to convert their chances, with Romain Larrieu saving well from Andy Kirk and Alex Pearce hitting the post with a headed effort moments later.

Gillingham’s best chances fell to Matt Jarvis but his half volley was turned over the bar by Mark Bunn.

Northampton hit the bar after the break with a long range effort from Sam Aiston and had several other close efforts as Gillingham defended bravely.

Hopes of a second clean sheet in as many games was ended late on, when Danny Jackman's clearance hit Aiston, the Northampton man ran in and crossed and Robertson finished.

Gillingham: Larrieu, Jackman, Flynn, Crofts, Bentley, Mulligan, McDonald (Sancho 90), Southall, Johnson, Chorley, Jarvis.
Subs Not Used: Cox, Collin, Spiller, Ndumbu-Nsungu.
Attendance: 5,618.
