Nominations open for sports awards

Nominations are now being accepted for Active Canterbury’s District Sports Awards.

Local sporting clubs, organisations and facilities, along with residents, are invited to nominate, by October 3, in the categories of junior, senior and veteran sports performer, junior and senior club of the year, disabled junior and senior sport achiever of the year, coach of the year and unsung hero.

An Active Canterbury panel will then whittle the nominees down to a shortlist of three in each section, before announcing the winners at a ceremony on October 24 at the University of Kent.

Olympic gold medallist Sean Kerly, who will be attending the ceremony, said: “The Canterbury district should be proud of the work that is put in throughout the year and this awards evening is the opportunity to celebrate the talented performers and coaches.”

Nomination forms are available at all local sports centres, from canterburyactive.org or by emailing sportsdevelopment@canterbury.gov.uk
