DEBUT-MAKING Che Stadhart was quick to make an impact for Welling, creating the opening goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win away to Kent League Herne Bay in the club’s second pre-season friendly.

Signed on Thursday night after the Wings’ 1-1 home draw at home to Charlton, Stadhart played in Danny Kedwell after five minutes and he beat Bay goalkeeper Jack Delo.

Triallist Marlon Button sealed victory with a second late in the game.

Manager Adrian Pennock, who knows Stadhart well from his time at Gravesend, said: "I’m pleased to have made the signing at long last because Che is a proven, natural goalscorer.

"He scored 16 last season for Margate, which is no mean feat when you remember that Margate were relegated.

"I believe we have the players here to provide Che with the ammunition he needs to be effective."

The Wings were without James Pinnock, Rob Owen and Lee Shearer on Saturday as all three were attending a wedding.

The trio had been involved in Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Charlton who needed a late Luke Young equaliser to save them from defeat.

"Results are of no consequence at this time of the year," said Pennock. "We didn’t disgrace ourselves against Premier League opposition and the game proved an excellent work-out."

The Wings continue their pre-season programme at home to Grays Athletic on Saturday and visit Kent League Erith Town on Wednesday, July 27.
