New Ebbsfleet chairman John Moules is confident his experience will help the club move forward.

Mr Moules, the former Football Conference chief executive, has been a central figure in the growth and success of the Blue Square Premier and replaces interim chairman Brian Kilcullen.

The 59-year-old said: "That was the basis of my discussions with MyFootballClub and the trust people. It was a question of looking at what their ambitions are and what skills I have."

The former referee, who lives in Erith, will operate on a consultancy basis for one or two days a week.

He will be working alongside David Davis, who has been appointed as the club’s new chief executive.

After being approached by MyFootballClub some months ago, Mr Moules is looking forward to getting started.

He explained: "I’ve been talking to them for a few months now. It was really a question of getting the FA Trophy out of the way.

"The Conference held their annual meeting over the weekend so we felt now was the right time to announce myself (as chairman) and David Davis as the chief executive."

Mr Moules believes the club must build on the Fleet’s FA Trophy success.

He said: "Every club who gets an opportunity to go to Wembley, as Ebbsfleet have this year, needs to build on that success.

"Wembley showed that there are 20,000 people around the area who are interested in football and the club. We have got to tap into that support for the future. That’s how the club will go forward."

Mr Moules will work together with the current administration, management and playing staff to put in place development plans for the club over the next three years.

He has identified the Thames Gateway development, plans for a new stadium and continued growth of the club’s youth schemes as key areas.

But Mr Moules is remaining mindful he is answerable to thousands of owners. He added: "The key is that there are between 20,000 and 30,000 members of MyFootballClub who will want to have a say on how the club progresses.

"I will take on those views and the views of the people at the club."
