Mos off to a winning start

INVICTA Dynamos started their ENIHL Cup campaign by taking four points against Peterborough Islanders.

On Saturday, a large travelling fan base was treated to a third-period goal feast as the Mos won 11-0.

Andy Smith was the star of the night, picking up 4+1, while linemate Peter Carey claimed three assists.

The game was littered with penalties from a referee who, both sides agreed, was over-fussy.

Mos captain Kev Lake and Anthony Lennon both received 10-minute penalties for hits to the head, while three Peterborough players received the same punishment for dangerous hits as 169 PIMS (penalties in minutes) were dished out.

In the return fixture on Sunday at the Gillingham Ice Bowl, the two teams were unrecognisable from the previous evening’s contest.

Invicta were clearly missing the direction from the bench of coach Kev Parrish, who is away on honeymoon.

Lake was forced to withdraw from playing and take over coaching duties.

Smith was on target again, with Carey, Perry Richardson and Matt Drake netting the other Dynamos goals.

Credit must go to Islanders keeper David Whitwell, who stopped 67 of the 71 shots that came his way.

On Sunday the Dynamos travel to Romford for the first fixture in the EPL Cup, a step up from the ENIHL games.

Last season the Medway side suffered four defeats at the hands of the Raiders, but with off-season additions to last year’s title- winning squad they will be confident of narrowing the gap.
