Mos looking to make amends

Peterborough Islanders v Invicta Dynamos

INVICTA Dynamos are looking for revenge after defeat in their opening fixture of the season.

This weekend’s League cup double header is with Peterborough Islanders, the feeder team to higher-league Peterborough Phantoms, who beat them 5-3 in a home challenge match on Sunday.

New signings Perry Richardson, James Tanner and Daniel Karlsson did ice but Liam Doyle did not play after confusion with paperwork.

An administration problem with the Canadian Ice Hockey Federation, where Doyle has played for the past two seasons, is hoped to be resolved in time for the British-born forward to play this weekend.

The Mos made a dream start at the Ice Bowl when Andy Smith (0+3) beat the defender on the blueline before setting up Stuart Low (2+0) to score from a brilliant cross-crease pass.

Peterborough equalised with a wicked wrist shot from James Archer at 6.40 and then 14 seconds later, took the lead through Annti Raikkonen.

The second period was disappointing as many home chances were spurned before Shaun Yardley scored shorthanded for the Phantoms, although Invicta did make it 3-2 when Smith and Low again combined.

Just as the Phantoms had conceded a goal in the final minute of the period, the Dynamos conceded in the opening minute of the third when Donald Gagnon struck.

To their credit, the Mos did not give up and had chances to pull back to within a goal, Andy Smith, Peter Korff and AJ Smith all having shots from dangerous positions inside the attacking zone.

Man-of-the-match Richardson was called for high-sticks at 46:13, but Invicta defended patiently to limit the Phantoms to only one shot, which was well saved by James Tanner.

But Raikkonen killed the game with his second at 50.21, before Peter Carey (1+1) brought the score to a more respectable 5-3 at 55.12.

The Dynamos travel to Peterborough on Saturday (6pm face-off) with the return at The Ice Bowl on Sunday (5.15pm face-off).
