Mos continue on glory trail

PARRISH: Wants to win and play a high standard of hockey

Invicta Dynamos v Oxford City Stars

STAYING on course for an unprecedented quadruple, the Invicta Dynamos made a good start of making the league cup their third trophy of the season.

A 5-1 semi-final home win over English National Hockey League (North) side Billingham Bombers on Sunday means the Mos are on course to make the final.

And this weekend the South champions and Cross Counties Challenge Cup holders turn their attentions to the play-offs and a date with rivals Oxford City Stars.

Player-coach Kev Parrish said: "I was very pleased with the Billingham win as games over two legs are always difficult to play. They came here with the aim of keeping the score down and nicking a goal, which is how we’ll approach the second leg on April 3.

"It probably was not the best game played at the Ice Bowl all season, especially after we took a 3-0 first-period lead, which is why maybe the crowd was unusually quiet.

"It was a bit flat, but it was a professional performance, giving us a good lead for the return. I believe we will score goals wherever we go, so we just need to keep it tight at the back."

Man-of-the-match Mike Allaby (3+1) and Andy Smith (2+1) were on target and the forward pair are bang on form heading into the play-offs.

The Mos are up against Oxford, Streatham and Cardiff and there was a surprise in the first play-off game.

Parrish continued: "League runners-up Oxford lost 6-4 to fourth-place Cardiff. Usually two defeats in the play-offs means you’re out so hopefully on Sunday we can knock them out.

"It will be a hard game, though, but we’ll be aiming not only to win but provide our fans with the standard of hockey with which they have become accustomed."

Face-off on Sunday is at 5.15pm.
