Miserable start for Margate

Margate 0 Exeter 1

MARGATE are still waiting for their first win of the Nationwide Conference season after losing at home to former Football League side Exeter at the Hoverspeed Stadium.

The decisive goal came on 69 minutes when Jay Saunders fouled Exeter striker Reinier Moor and sub Barry McConnell tucked away the penalty.

In a game of few chances, Margate's best of the first half came on 19 minutes when striker Warren Patmore's header went across goal with no-one able to get a touch.

Che Stadhart, on for the injured Jean-Michel Sigere, glanced a header wide after the break but it was Exeter who finished stronger, with James Coppinger twice going close in the dying moments.
