A FORMER world champion and several youngters making their debut fights will feature at Aylesham Boxing Club’s first show on Saturday, May 1.

The club, formed little more than a year ago, expects to stage 16 bouts, 11 showcasing boys from their own club.

Former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, who has encouraged the boys and their coaches since the club was formed, is due to present the prizes, accompanied by light flyweight Micky Cantwell.

The show will start at 7.30pm, and tickets will be available on the door, £10 for adults, £5 for children and pensioners.

Aylesham’s own Carl Moses, and Sam Osmond, of Canterbury Boxing Club, who both reached national schoolboy finals this year, will be among the boxers, ranging in age from 11 to senior. Five of the Aylesham lads will be having their first competitive outings.

The club is in the working men’s club building at Dorman Avenue North, Aylesham. One of the organisers, Carl Moses Sen, said: “It has been hard work setting up our first show but it is worth it for the youngsters.

“Everything has gone well and the support from the local community and business community has been fantastic.”

The club would welcome more sponsorship, and anyone interested in supporting the event is askedd to contact Mr Moses on 01304 842020 or 07960 794421.
