Margate relishing trip to the Orient

CUP fever is building in Margate after they were drawn away to Leyton Orient in the first round of the FA Cup.

Supporters eager for tickets for the tie at Brisbane Road on Saturday, November 16, have already been making inquiries at Hartsdown Park.

Club secretary Ken Tomlinson said the club were delighted with the draw and that tickets would be put on sale as soon as they were received from the Nationwide League Division 3 club.

They are certainly expected to be available at Margate’s Nationwide Conference game against Telford, at the Crabble ground, Dover, on November 9.

Mr Tomlinson said: “It could hardly have been better for us. It’s not too far to travel and will create a lot of interest.

“There are a few connections between the clubs. For instance, our former manager Tommy Taylor went on to manage Orient.”

Saturday’s win netted Gate £20,000 in prize money, and the same amount is on offer for a giant-killing at Orient. A replay would be at Dover on Tuesday, November 26, at 7.45pm.
