Reputations aren’t an issue to Gillingham midfielder Amine Linganzi.

The Gills face a Coventry City team who are the division’s leading scorers and are unbeaten in five league outings.

But Linganzi recalls the time he came to Gillingham as an Accrington player and gave Martin Allen’s league leaders a real scare.

“I came here with Accrington, who were in trouble at the time and faced the top of the table team Gillingham.

“I knew that positions didn’t matter; any team can beat each other. Chelsea can lose against QPR and it doesn’t matter.

“I am not worried about Coventry. I am from the Premier League so for me to be worried about Coventry? No.”

Accrington narrowly lost 1-0 that day but Linganzi had been the star of the show.

Linganzi is on a journey that he hopes will see him return to the Premier League one day. His first senior appearance was for Blackburn at Villa Park at the end of the 2009/10 season.

He faced Manchester United at Old Trafford the following season and believes his previous top-level experience can only help him succeed.

“When you are from the Premier League that gives you extra confidence,” said the 23-year-old.

“I don’t want to be arrogant and say that it’s easy for me but I have trained with top Premier League players and learned things from them.

“At Blackburn I was with (Spanish international) Michel Salgado, who played for Real Madrid, and I learned a lot of things from him.

“He showed me that you have to give 100% in training and you have to be the best. He kept saying that to me all the time and I am like that.

“It is hard work. Everything is not easy, you have to work hard to make it easier.

“It is never finished. Some players start at 26 and go onto become the best players in the world. Some players need time.”
