Bishop's Stortford 2 Bromley 0

Bromley missed the chance to climb the Blue Square South table as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at play-off rivals Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.

After an even opening the home side took a 23rd minute lead when Louie Fazakerly - who had earlier hit the post - finished well from the edge of the penalty area.

Sam Wood went close for the Lillywhites with a shot that flashed wide of the upright just before the break as the visitors went in search of an equaliser.

But the crucial second goal came on 67 minutes when a corner was only partially cleared and Stortford skipper Paul Goodacre volleyed home through a crowd of players, despite keeper Gareth Williams getting a hand on it.

Bromley pushed to get back in the match in the final 20 minutes but home keeper Joe Welsh did well to deny both debutant Mark DeBolla and Danny Hockton.

The Lillywhites remain in 10th place five points off the relegation zone and face a daunting trip to league leaders Eastbourne next Saturday.
