Leigh 2 Margate 0

MARGATE still await their first away win of the season after slipping to a disappointing Nationwide Conference defeat at Leigh on Saturday.

Manager Chris Kinnear will be bitterly disappointed about the soft nature of the goals conceded, particularly the second which came while the Gate were enjoying their best spell of the match.

A long ball played forward in the 74th minute went through the legs of Gate keeper Phil Smith leaving Dino Maamria with a simple tap-in.

There was no way back for Gate after that and their misery was compounded when defender Iain O’Connell was sent off in the final minutes after collecting two yellow cards.

Leigh had taken the lead on the half hour when a corner to the far post was headed back across goal by Wayne Madden and Ian Monks dived in to score.
