NEIL SMITH celebrated his first win as Welling manager thanks to Omari Coleman's 83rd minute strike at Church Road on Saturday.

The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw until Coleman latched onto Nick Ward's flick-on and rounded keeper John Peacock before scoring from an acute angle.

It was just reward for an improved second half performance after the Wings struggled in the first period.

Hayes ahould have been ahead as early as the first minute but Liam Collins dragged his shot wide.

The home side should have gone ahead two minutes before the break when Tom Sinclair's challenge on Stafforde Palmer was deemed to be inside the box but keeper Jamie Turner pushed away Nevin Faroya's spot-kick.

Welling dominated the second half and nearly took a 53rd minute lead when Coleman's pull back found Sam Keevil but his shot was blocked on the line.

Keevil was then again denied from close range by Peacock before Richard Carpenter's free-kick was brilliantly turned away.

Hayes lost their heads after Welling went in front and had substitute Kieran Knight sent off for a two-footed lunge late on.
