Late goals sink Wings

Welling 0 Braintree 2

WELLING dropped into the bottom six of Blue Square South after two goals in the last 17 minutes secured victory for Braintree.

The match looked to be heading for a goalless draw until substitute Louis Riddle and James Baker netted for the visitors.

Welling handed a debut to on-loan Gillingham youngster Andy Pugh after Ross Montague returned to Brentford while keeper Clark Masters played the final game of his loan spell from Griffin Park.

Welling started brightly and a flowing move in the 14th minute ended with manager Neil Smith deflecting over Omari Coleman's first-time effort.

Coleman then saw his 20-yard bender well saved before Pugh was denied by keeper Nicky Morgan.

Both sides were restricted to long-range efforts in the second-half before a needless foul by Robbie Ryan presented Braintree with a free-kick 20 yards from goal. Riddle stepped up and drilled the ball past Masters with his first touch of the game.

Welling substitute Sam Keevill missed a golden chance to equalise with five minutes left and the Wings were made to pay 60 seconds later when Baker cut inside and scored at the near post.
