Last gasp Stadhart steals point for Wings

Bishop's Stortford 1 - 1 Welling United

AN 89th minute equaliser from striker Che Stadhart rescued a point for Welling at Bishop's Stortford in Nationwide Conference South on Saturday.

Stadhart pounced from close range after Jamie Day's free-kick was headed back across goal by Danny Kedwell.

A stale first half saw the Wings dominate possession but lack any quality in the final third.

The closest either side came to a goal was two minutes into stoppage time when Wings keeper Jamie Turner produced a breath-taking save to keep out Jack Midson's header.

The home side took the lead three minutes into the second period when Matt Bodkin lost possession cheaply and Bishop's Stortford skipper David Rainford sent a rasping 20-yard volley past Turner.

Welling should have levelled on the hour when Day's free-kick was met by Chris Moore. His header came back off the crossbar and Kedwell then headed the rebound against the woodwork as well.

Once Stadhart pounced it appeared there was little time to play but fussy referee S. Feerick somehow managed to find nine minutes of stoppage time.

The Wings are at home to Havant & Waterlooville in the league on Tuesday night.
