LASHINGS continued their winning streak with a narrow victory over Phil Tufnell’s World XI.

In an overcast atmosphere the Lashings openers of Sherwin Campbell and Daren Ganga wasted no time in warming up, racing onto 37 after just three overs.

Ganga struck the majority of hefty blows and found the boundary on a number of occasions with unerring accuracy.

However Tufnell’s side continued to plug away and got their reward when Neneto Davis bowled Campbell for 25. This brought Grant Flower to the crease, who quickly formed a partnership with the irresistible Ganga, as Lashings raced to their first hundred in just the ninth over. Phil Tufnell himself came in for some heavy punishment.

Despite removing Flower and Greg Blewett, the home side struggled to find the recipe for success and Lashings finished on 214 for 3 from 20 overs. Ganga’s impressive debut was worth an unbeaten 86.

Faced with a daunting total, the World XI made good progress. Openers Garfield Strutters and R. Gunalan took the score to 41 from the first five overs.

However, once the home side passed 50, Lashings made an important breakthrough. Campbell removed Gunalan for 25 and then came a minor collapse, the majority of their middle order going cheaply.

Despite the best efforts of the talented Strutters, who unbeaten on 110, the World XI came up 10 runs short of Lashings’ total.

As a result of his fine performance Garfield Strutters earned the opportunity to play for Lashings in their next match against Bromley CC.
