KENT started the second half of their Frizzell Championship campaign in Southgate today with their Division 1 game with Middlesex.

The visitors, having lost the toss and been asked to bowl, took to the field with new overseas player Michael Bevan in their side for the first time.

With injuries to Amjad Khan (hip) and Martin Saggers (knee), Kent also gave a championship debut to young fast bowler Rob Joseph.

A broken bat and a sightscreen that did not want to be moved made for a slow start to the game, as Middlesex reached 17 without loss after five overs.

Kent: Carberry, Fulton, Smith, Bevan, Walker, Loudon, O'Brien, Patel, Butler, Joseph, Trott.
