Keeper in fitness race ahead of Ipswich clash

DOUBTFUL: Steve Banks
DOUBTFUL: Steve Banks

Gillingham v Ipswich Town

GILLINGHAM could be without four players for the vital match against Ipswich Town at Priestfield on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Steve Banks is doubtful after being injured in a collision with Chris Hope during the victory against Stoke on Tuesday.

Jason Brown is on standby to replace him if he recovers from a thigh strain, otherwise Bertrand Bossu will play.

Barry Ashby is certainly unavailable with an ankle sprain, while Danny Spiller and Alan Pouton will both face late fitness tests.

On loan duo Jay McEveley and Jonathan Douglas look likely to keep their places in Stan Ternent's starting line-up after impressing in their first two matches and assistant boss Ronnie Jepson has paid tribute to their contribution since joining the squad from Blackburn.

He said: "They’ve both done well and have proved to be valuable additions to the squad. But it’s not just about the two new players. Everyone from one to 11 has given 110 per cent for the club and we need more of the same against Ipswich."
