Gillingham v Port Vale

GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson has warned his players not to underestimate the challenge of Port Vale on Saturday.

The Gills entertain Vale at Priestfield in League 1 looking to claim a second home win in five days.

But Jepson knows that he faces a hard task to drag the Gills, who climbed four places to 17th after beating Doncaster 1-0 on Tuesday, further away from the foot of the table.

He said: "Managers will tell you that it’s the most difficult thing to do – win back to back games. You have to bring the players back down to earth, get them focused on the training ground and get their concentration levels back.

"It must do the players good when they look at the league table and see they’ve shot up a couple of places."

Gillingham’s home form has been instrumental in moving them back out of the relegation places with 19 of their 23 points coming on home soil.

Their tally of six home wins is only bettered by the top two teams and Nottingham Forest in the division and Jepson wants to make Priestfield a difficult place to visit.

"When I came here with Burnley as a coach and even as a player it was a difficult place to come to and it would be nice to get it back to that," he said.

"The crowd gets behind us, we can get on the front foot and look to score goals and we need to maintain that."
