Jarrett given another month to impress

Albert Jarrett’s stay at Gillingham has been extended for another month by manager Mark Stimson.

Stimson admits the winger still needs to do more to earn a permanent deal but is keen to give the player a chance.

“We can see him go past people for fun in training but for some reason he gets on that pitch and he’s not doing it naturally,” said Stimson.

“He’s not here for money, he’s here to get a football career and what we’re actually paying him is peanuts really. Fair credit to the boy for sticking around for another month. I’m sure he could go to many lower league clubs in the Conference and get double what he’s earning here but he wants to stay and try and fight and earn himself a contract here.”

Jarrett turns 24 today (Wednesday) and Stimson admits his form can be frustrating – like many wingers.

“He did a lot better (against Notts County) than he did the last time at home but he we still probably want more.

“He’s a typical winger. One week they are absolutely flying and in another half of the game you think, ‘has he actually played before’.”
