Ice men on the brink of title

Invicta Dynamos v Streatham Redskins

INVICTA Dynamos will be within touching distance of retaining their English National Hockey League (South) title if they beat third-placed Streatham Redskins at Gillingham Ice Bowl on Sunday.

At the weekend, the Mos enjoyed their biggest win of the season when they annihilated Haringey Greyhounds 15-0. The result leaves them two points clear at the top of the table.

The title will be even closer to reality should Oxford City Stars, who currently lie in second place, slip up at fourth-placed Milton Keynes Thunder.

Player-coach Kevin Parrish said: "Oxford can get a maximum of 30 points, but if we win our next three games when it comes to us going to their place on February 20 it could all be over.

"We’re not counting our chickens yet, though. Streatham may have only drawn 2-2 with Cardiff in their last game, but the Welsh side are very up and down.

"We may have beaten them 13-3 but they caught us on a day when we played our best hockey of the season. The night before they had put 10 past Oxford.

"Since winning 10-9 at Streatham our defence has tightened up, conceding just two in two games and we’ll be looking for that to continue on Sunday. Anthony Lennon is our only concern with a bruised ankle, so he’ll face a late fitness test."

KM-fm sports editor Simon Watts interviewed Parrish ahead of Sunday's game...
