Home tie for Margate in FA Trophy

CHRIS KINNEAR: wishes granted
CHRIS KINNEAR: wishes granted

MARGATE were handed a home tie against Doc Martens League leaders Tamworth in today’s FA Trophy fifth round draw.

It’s an attractive reward for putting out Tamworth’s rivals Worcester in a 2-0 win at St Georges Lane on Saturday.

Secretary Ken Tomlinson said: “I am sure everyone at the club will be happy with the draw. Chris Kinnear wanted a home tie, and also avoid being paired against another Conference side, and both his wishes have come true.

“It’s nice to be at home after a trip to Dulwich, followed by a 400 mile plus round trip andnearly nine hours on the road to Worcester.”

Margate are likely to seek FA approval to play the tie at Hartsdown Park on February 22, as fixture congestion and the state of the pitch at Dover’s Crabble ground could be key factors.
