Welling secretary Barrie Hobbins has promised to support manager Andy Ford’s summer transfer plans after the club secured their Blue Square South status last weekend.

Bromley’s win at Weston meant the Wings could no longer finish in the bottom three, and Ford claims that he needs an increase of around £20,000 on his annual budget to avoid another season of toil next summer.

Ford said: “If the budget stays the same then we will be fighting relegation again. It’s a difficult thing but it needs to be produced so I can do the job that I want. I need to be talking to players in the next week about joining the club. There are already some players out there that have been tapped up.”

Mr Hobbins welcomed Ford’s ambition and indicated that the club have already increased the budget.

He said: “We’re not going to snub him and say there’s no money. We will find additional funds, it’s just a case of how much more we can provide. We’ll look at all the possibilities to see how close we can get to the figure that Andy wants.”
