Hess: Too early to speculate on play-offs

ROD WALLACE: received special praise from his manager
ROD WALLACE: received special praise from his manager

THREE consecutive wins have seen Gillingham shoot up the table but player-manager Andy Hessenthaler is refusing to get carried away.

Hessenthaler has dismissed talk of the play-offs after his side’s recent upturn in form and is only looking as far as the Millwall game on Boxing Day.

He said: “Three wins in a row has made the chairman talk about the play-offs. However, I won't be getting carried away myself because I know how quickly things can change.

“Saturday’s win against Burnley was certainly our best home performance of the season without a doubt. But things can change very quickly. It was only a few weeks ago people were moaning about us so we won't be getting carried away with three wins.

Hessenthaler praised the performance of Rod Wallace who bagged his third goal in consecutive matches against Burnley. He added: “I said it would take a bit of time with Rod and he’s bringing the best out of Marlon who’s starting to fire on all cylinders and making him a better player.

“The third goal was great play. The way Rod let the ball go through his legs was first class. I can't praise the players enough. We hit a sticky spell and we've come through it. We're just looking forward to Millwall now.”
