LEON JOHNSON: injury denies him the chance to face his former team-mates
LEON JOHNSON: injury denies him the chance to face his former team-mates

GILLINGHAM continue their pre-season preparation tonight at Southend looking to bounce back with a win after successive defeats in France against Lens and Lille.

Former Southend defender Leon Johnson misses facing his old club owing to a knee injury sustained against France. He joins a growing casualty list that includes skipper Paul Smith, Marlon King, Rod Wallace, Nyron Nosworthy, Kevin James and Jones Awuah.

Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler must decide whether to persevere with three at the back after leaking six goals in three days in France or revert to a flat back four.

Tonight's match kicks off at Roots Hall at 7.45pm.
