Hess cleared of 'wrong name' charge

GILLINGHAM player-manager manager Andy Hessenthaler has had an FA charge against him dropped. It was alleged that Hessenthaler gave a wrong name to a referee when cautioned during a reserve team game at home to Northampton on October 31.

The referee claimed that Hessenthaler gave the name "Taylor", but the Gills boss insisted he misheard when he replied "Hessenthaler". An FA disciplinary commission found the case unproven during a hearing at its headquarters in Soho Square, London, on Thursday.

A case against Gillingham coach Wayne Jones was also due to be dealt with but was adjourned. Jones was called before the FA following his dismissal from the dug-out during the home game against Burnley on October 30 when he allegedly made remarks to Gloucester referee Clive Wilkes.
