GERARD GREENE: Lost but kept his rival under pressure

RAINHAM snooker star Gerard Greene crashed out of the PowerHouse UK Snooker Championships in York last night after losing to Marco Fu from Hong Kong.

Greene came back from 5-7 to level at 7-7, but world No 27 Fu took the last two frames comfortably to reach the second round of the £615,000 event at the Barbican Centre.

Fu said: “Gerard has been the man in form lately and he kept me under pressure throughout. A lot of frames went down to the last few balls and I am really pleased to get through.

“I'm changing my technique at the moment and my confidence has been low because I've lost so many first-round matches. So this was an important game for me to win.”

Fu now takes on Australia's Quinten Hann.
