Lewis Gray won two titles for England at the Stockton-on-Tees Junior 4-Star Table Tennis Championships.

Gray, 14, from Benenden remained unbeaten as he took the cadet boys’ team honour and followed that up with the singles’ title.

The Angley School pupil recorded comfortable 3-0 results over Ireland (second round), Eastpoint (quarter-finals), The Weald (semi-finals) and Redlands Bats (final) while representing England A in the cadet (under 15) boys’ team event.

Gray, who recently dropped to number two in the England rankings, took a second title after lifting the cadet boys’ singles, with a closely fought victory over Sam Walker (9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 13-11) in the semi-finals, and then Ping Ho (7-11, 11-3, 11-5. 11-7) in the final.

He was unable to make it a trio of wins after being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the junior (under 18) boys’ singles competition.

Gray’s coach at the Weald TT Club Ken Muhr said, “Lewis has the great competitive ability to keep on overcoming relative disappointments and come back even stronger.”
