Golfing fan Corbett to open clubhouse

COMEDIAN Ronnie Corbett will be opening Gillingham Golf Club's new clubhouse tonight. The £1 million building in Woodlands Road includes a bar and restaurant and locker rooms for the club's 900 members.

Club secretary Melanie Scott said: "We've been trying to get this project off the ground for 10 years and we've finally managed it.It's mostly paid for by members. They have been putting money aside for a number of years."

Ronnie Corbett is to be guest of honour at the grand opening dinner and is due to sit in Medway Maritime Hospital's huge "chair of healing". He is raising money for SOS, a charity which raises money for cerebral palsy sufferers.
